About League of Legends

League of legends is what's called a MOBA, or massive online battle arena. where thousands of players duke it out on the fields of justice. The game features over 140 unique characters, with a new one coming out every two months or so. The game features over 3 million registered players, with that number growing every day. And while it is one of the largest communities for a video game, it has some great aspects to it that really make it a wonderful community to be a part of.

Community

League of legends is all about identity. what rank you are, what role you play, what character you play and lots more. While it is a video game, league of legends provides many people with something that can be difficult to find: a place in a community. League of legends gives people an identity to hold onto and really allows someone to feel like they're a part of something. It even gives people something to communicate about, as more then likely you will find someone else who also enjoys the game. It gives the kind of people who normally sit and play video games an outlet to meet others, learn to work together and have some fun.

Why join?

The meta is always shifting to include new types of character, or new playstyles. New characters are always being released, and old ones are always being updated. Overall it's not only a fun game, but one that has quite a bit of work put into it and will bring lasting fun to not only play by yourself but to meet others, build teams and play with friends

Why does this matter?

League of legends has more or less made the entire MOBA style of games boom, allowing other producser to create games of that style. Not only that, but it has helped pull videogames out of obscurity, allowing them to become more mainstream. Which not only brings more attention to the videogame community, but allows it to grow as opposed to being more of a niche community.

What do we value?

Summoners are a tight knit bunch, and while league players may just seem like gamers there are actually very specific skills that are valued in the community. Knowledge is one of them; Knowing about the game is very importent to not only playing, but to helping out others and being a leader. Players repond well to leaders, and increadbly important to healthy gameplay.

Skill is another very important aspect of league of legends. It is a team stragety game, so in order to play well you have to be skilled. Some characters are insanelt hard to play an requrie hundreds of games to play right.Because of all the hard work it takes to play the game, being skilled usually comes with lots of time spent and hard work, so other players will typically respect that and often look up to skilled players.

Teamwork is a part of the game. Some people don't like that, but it's the way it is. Teamwork is the backbone of league of legends, and without good teamwork you will never rise as a player. Teamwork is one of the harest skills to learn, but even when loosing players respect teamwork, as without good teamwork the game will fall apart.

Identity

While there are lot of identities that are widely accepted in league of legends, there are a few that are just not. One of which is cheaters of "scripters" as they are known in league. Anyone who uses outside programs to give themselves an unfair advantage is genereally looked down upon, as it is in most other gaming communities.

Players also don't particulaly like what's called "toxic" or rude players, as they ruin the overall experience. Sportsmanship is impritant in any game, and league is no different. Toxic players often demoralize the game and feed off making other players feel bad for doing something "wrong". Because there is susch a wide skill range they also tend to pick on newer, or inexperienced players whci tend to drive them away. Average players usually condemm this kind of behavior, whih has led to the rise of the report system, which punishes toxic players for their behavior hoping to make the enviroment better for all.
