Learn the Lingo

League of Legends is like any other video game community, and is filled with language incredibly specific to the game or the mechanics of the game. Some of this is more or less required even for newer players to understand, that way they are able to work as a team effectively.

League of legends lingo has evolved over the years simply from the players. Due to the lack of a voice chat in the game, all commands and communication are typed. However, because the game is played with a keyboard words have to be quick effective and almost universally understood. The language has evolved to be very unique and ranges from simple slang to extremely precise strategical commands that can be hard to follow unless your are well versed. Usually within a game you will hear a mixture of both, so it is important to understand as much as possible.

While for a while the slang was really evolving, and the game was really taking on a language of it;s own it has for the most part, stagnated. This is really just because a lot of the language has really become ingrained into the community, with no looking to change.

Lane: Refers to the way that the map is set up and where most of the game is played. There are a total of 3:top, middle and bottom. Which lane you play is largely determined by what character you're playing as.
